What a run club is and why they are everywhere
Neither an athletics team nor a race: a run club is a group that meets to run together at a chatting pace, and almost always ends with a coffee.

If you live in a city, you have probably seen a large group running on a Wednesday evening and then having a drink on a terrace. That is a run club.
What it is, exactly
A run club is a group of people who meet to run regularly. What sets it apart from an athletics club is the goal: they don't train to compete, they run to enjoy it and meet people. Almost all of them share three things:
- Fixed runs: the same day and time every week.
- A chatting pace: a pace you can talk at, often with pace groups.
- A social finish: coffee, breakfast, a beer or something with a local business.
What it isn't
It isn't a race, you don't need a licence and you rarely pay to join. Many are free; some charge for special events or have a membership.
Why they are everywhere
Because they solve something a gym doesn't: meeting people around a healthy plan, without pressure. On top of that they are easy to find on Instagram and anyone can turn up without experience.
